Track and field: Ryan, Guyer relay teams make final

AUSTIN — Both the Ryan and Guyer boys 800 relay teams qualified for the Division II final during Friday’s prelimaries at the 87th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at the University of Texas’ Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Ryan’s group of Terrell Cross, Paul Hunter, Maurice Gordon and Cameron Williams qualified fourth in 1:26.45. Finishing . 27 seconds behind was the Guyer team of Jalen Hunter, Anthony Taylor, Adam Scott and Jerrod Heard, qualifying sixth.

Argyle’s Reese Thompson claimed the only first-place finish on the day for Denton’s area participants, qualifying in front of the field in the boys Division I 110 hurdles in 14.41 seconds. Also qualifying for Argyle was the girls 4x400 relay team consisting of Cassi Hargroves, Laine Lowry, Cami McDaris and Taylor Mueller, which finished in 3:58.98.

In the Division II boys 110 hurdles, Guyer’s Jalen Hunter qualified fourth in 13.99 seconds.

In the finals of the field, Argyle’s Jon Pucciarello placed 15th in the Section B boys pole vault with a height of 13 feet, 11 1/4 inches, while Sanger’s Madi Wilson threw a 115 feet, 7 inches to place 23rd in girls discus.

Leading off today’s events is Guyer’s Devin Norton in the girls 3,200 at 8:15 a.m. Field event finals begin at 9 a.m., when Ryan’s Xavier Gray will compete in the boys triple jump.
