Tennis: Krum falls short at regionals

Krum’s entries in Thursday’s Class 3A Region II tournament at Rockwall experienced varied amount of success but was unable to send anybody to the state tournament.

In boys doubles, Krum’s pairing of Chris Leal and Derius Wilson lost 6-3, 6-1 to Wills Point’s Logan Daniell and Rustin Rankin in the first round, while Jacob Atterberry and Anthony Hurlbut also fell in the first round to Frisco Lone Star’s Dylan McDonald and Ethan Herrick in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

In girls singles, Krum’s Brittani Roy won her first-round match against Bonham’s Katie Barber, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (1), but lost in the quarterfinals to Kaufman’s Ashleigh Davis 7-6 (2), 6-1. Krum’s Mickey Griffith lost to Liberty Spring Hill’s Lydia Wallis in the opening round, 6-2, 6-2.

Krum’s duo of Katie Callahan and Michelle Perdue lost to Kaufman’s Laney Darragh and Haley Russell 6-2, 6-3 in the opening round of the girls doubles, while Sarah Sprabary and Mackenzie Ripple won their first-round match but lost to Lone Star’s Madelyn Howard and Liana Jo in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-1.

In mixed doubles, Krum’s Alex Crouse and Maggie Quy lost to Bullard’s Landen Beckham and Reagan Whatley in the opening round, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Argyle’s Brandon Couch and Shashwat Tripathi defeated Princeton in three sets in the opening round but lost 6-3, 6-2 to Athens’ Jake Bywaters and Nolan Whitely in the quarterfinals.
