Volleyball roundup: Aubrey sweeps to open tournament play

Despite a slow start to the 2017 season, the Aubrey Lady Chaps found their footing to open play in the Denison Tournament. Aubrey downed rival Pottsboro 25-11, 25-22 before beating Van Alstyne 25-11, 25-22.

The Lady Chaps rounded out the day by defeating Tioga 25-19, 25-18. Kaia Saylor led with 30 kills, while Katherine Knight added 20. Laney Roos played great defense with 30 digs. 

Aubrey returns to action in the Denison Tournament on Saturday in the Championship Bracket. 

Ryan drops pair

Ryan was handed a pair of losses, both in straight sets, to fall to 8-5 on the season. 

They day started with a 28-26, 25-19 loss to Hebron before losing to Arlington Lamar 29-27, 25-21. Taylor Brann provided 20 assists against Hebron and 26 assists against Lamar. 

Taylor Terry led Ryan with 13 kills over the two matches.

Denton loses three

Denton had a rough day  with three losses in straight sets. Keller downed Denton 25-11, 25-13 before Randall beat it 25-22, 25-17.

Lake Highland was Denton's final opponent of the day, handing the Lady Broncos a 25-11, 25-19 loss. Maria Martin stood out in the Lake Highland match with 17 digs. 

Martin added 13 digs against Randall.

Pilot Point winless in three matches

Pilot Point also struggled at the Denison Tournament. Whitewright took down Pilot Point 25-20, 25-22. The match against Collinsville would take all three sets but Pilot Point would ultimately fall. 

North Lamar rolled 25-15, 25-8 to down Pilot Point. Pilot Point is 1-10 on the season now, and it returns to action on Saturday at the Denison Tournament. 

Guyer goes unbeaten

Guyer  won all three of its matches in straight sets. Guyer took down Byron Nelson 25-22, 25-18 before rolling over Sasche 25-13, 25-13.

Mallory Pittman's 22 kills and Angel Felan's 43 assists led Guyer, which also won  25-8, 25-10 against Victoria West. Guyer returns to play Friday at the Northwest Tournament with three matches. 

Braswell splits four matches

Braswell had a busy day with four matches, two of which were against 6A schools. Braswell beat Lakeview Centennial 25-10, 25-15 before defeating Bryan Adams 25-12, 25-14.

But the Lady Bengals then lost to Plano 25-10, 25-18 and Longview 25-21, 25-13 to close their day.
