LUCAS — In their first game of the season, the Calvary Lions fell 45-0 to Lucas Christian on Saturday.

“It came down to us doing what it takes mentally,” Calvary co-head coach Bernard Daniel said. “They fought hard and tried to come back at the end, but we couldn’t pull it out. We know we have good wideouts that can catch the ball. Justin [Rush] made some good passes, but the receivers dropped a few.”

Starting running back Matt Hood was injured on the first play of the game, and Daniel said the Lions had trouble recovering.

“They started to hang their heads and it was a shot in the gut,” Daniel said. “It was a good learning experience and a reality check. We know what we’re up against.”

Calvary will face Austin Veritas at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bronco Field.
