The Calvary Lions, needing a victory over the Plainview Christian Eagles to claim the district championship, jumped out to a quick lead Thursday night and rolled to a 51-6 triumph.
The Lions (5-4, 3-0 district) scored 30 first-quarter points and led 45-6 at halftime before the game was halted in the third on the TAPPS mercy rule.
Brandon Eaton, who had only two carries on the evening, scored on both — an 11-yard run to open the scoring and a 14-yard gallop for Calvary’s final touchdown of the first quarter. Brayden Humphrey scored on a 3-yard run, and Gavin Mercer returned a punt 35 yards for a first-quarter touchdown.
Quarterback Keishun Cuchens handled the remainder of the scoring for the Lions. He scored on 60- and 4-yard runs in the second quarter, then returned the second-half kickoff 60 yards for the final score.
Calvary kicker Blake Mikeal was good on four extra points.
