Ria Pateraki recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead TWU to a 64-59 win over No. 19 Tarleton State on Monday.
The Pioneers (10-9, 6-4 Lone Star) never trailed and held TSU to 33.8 percent shooting. TWU shot 50.0 percent from the floor and 45.5 percent from 3-point range.
TWU’s Rebekah Cluley also scored 16 points while Toree Mason added 11.
The Pioneers led 24-14 midway through the first half. TWU pushed the lead to 16 before taking a 37-24 halftime lead.
The Pioneers took the game’s biggest lead, 48-30, five minutes into the second half. The TexAnns used an 11-3 run to cut the deficit to two points. The Pioneers hit three of four free throws in the final 13 seconds to seal the game.
“We shot the ball well and our team defense was outstanding,” TWU head coach Beth Jillson said. “We built a nice lead in the second half but let them back in with turnovers and offensive rebounds. Ria came up big on both offensive and defense with a double-double and Rebekah hit some big shots when we needed them. I am proud of the entire team for a big win.”
TWU will host Cameron at 7 p.m. Thursday.
