North Texas and Louisiana-Lafayette went to a fifth set for a third straight meeting, but the Mean Green had the answer Saturday and won a thrilling Sun Belt Conference opener 22-25, 27-25, 27-29, 25-22, 15-11.
Freshman Carnae Dillard notched a match-high 21 kills for UNT (15-5), which hit .321 and used 15 blocks to turn the tide.
Courtney Windham notched a career-high eight blocks for UNT, while Karissa Flack had six blocks. Shelby Tamura tied for the match lead with 22 digs.
UNT trailed 6-2 in the second set but rallied behind a high-flying Dillard. She racked up 10 kills in the set, including the winner.
UNT controlled the fifth set defensively, holding the Cajuns (9-8, 1-1 Sun Belt) to .087 hitting.
UNT plays visiting Louisiana-Monroe at 1 p.m. today.
