MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. — A second-round surge has put North Texas in the lead after 36 holes of the Sun Belt Conference men’s golf tournament.
The Mean Green was the only team to shoot under par in the second round and all five players are in the top-10 as North Texas holds a seven-stroke lead over Middle Tennessee heading into today’s final round.
North Texas shot a 6-under par 282 and is at 4-over 580 after 36 holes. The Blue Raiders are at 587, while Louisiana-Lafayette is third at 599.
Ty Spinella remains the overall individual leader of the tournament with a 1-under par 143. He is the only player in the field under par after shooting a second round of even-par 72.
Carlos Ortiz was 2-under par for the day with a 70. Ortiz, the defending conference champion, is tied for fifth place, three strokes behind Spinella.
Curtis Donahoe had the best round of the day with a 69 and climbed into a three-way tie for seventh place. He is 3-over for the tournament at 147.
Rodolfo Cazaubon (72) and Jason Roets (71) are tied with Donahoe.
