The North Texas soccer team propelled its way to a fifth straight Sun Belt Conference win with a 2-1 victory over Florida Atlantic on Friday night.
The Mean Green held a significant advantage in shots with 26 while holding FAU to eight. With the win, UNT improves to 10-3-1 on the season.
Sophomore Leah Cox picked up her first career goal off an assist by freshman Marissa Pantoja. It was a header on a corner kick putting the Mean Green up 1-0.
FAU battled back with a goal from Emslie Claire off a Natalia Hernandez assist to briefly tie the game until freshman Karla Pineda dribbled through defenders for the go-ahead goal. It was Pineda’s fifth goal of the season.
The Mean Green concludes its Florida portion of the Sun Belt schedule Sunday against Florida International University. Game time is 1 p.m.
