UNT ends skid vs. Middle Tennessee

Middle Tennessee had won eight straight matches against the North Texas volleyball team dating to 2006, but the Mean Green made sure that streak ended in dominating fashion Sunday afternoon with a 25-19, 25-20, 25-18 sweep.

North Texas (18-7, 4-2 Sun Belt West) pounded the Blue Raiders with a .340 team hitting percentage that included a match-high 13 kills by Carnae Dillard.

Middle Tennessee (5-16, 2-4 SBC East) has eliminated the Mean Green from each of the last two SBC tourneys while reaching the finals the past three seasons.

Courtney Windham was nearly unstoppable on both ends of the floor. The junior scored 11 kills on 19 swings (.529 hitting) and had five blocks. In fact, Windham outblocked the entire Middle Tennessee squad, which only had four.

The Mean Green defense kept the Blue Raiders off balance throughout the match as five players posted at least six digs: Shelby Tamura (8), Camille Cherry (7), Addason Lamb (7), Eboni Godfrey (6) and Dillard (6). The efforts helped keep Middle Tennessee at a .224 hitting percentage.

North Texas, which trails Arkansas-Little Rock by a game in the SBC West, goes on the road later this week, playing Troy on Friday and South Alabama on Saturday.
