JONESBORO, Ark. — North Texas squeezed past Arkansas State 2-1 on Friday after getting a tiebreaking goal from Leah Cox in the 83rd minute.
North Texas (11-3-2) persevered through wet field conditions and improved to 6-0-1 in Sun Belt Conference play.
Michelle Young scored the first goal for the Mean Green and joined Kelsey Hodges atop the UNT goals chart with seven.
“It rained all week up here and they seemed to handle the poor field conditions better than we did,” UNT coach John Hedlund said. “It was just very tough to utilize our speed and get our possession game going, but fortunately Michelle and Leah came up with two big goals.”
North Texas continues its Arkansas trip Sunday with a 1 p.m. matchup against Arkansas-Little Rock.
