BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — North Texas was unable to get anything going offensively and lost its regular-season finale to Western Kentucky, 2-0, Sunday
North Texas (13-4-2, 8-1-1 Sun Belt) can still win the conference title. Holding a tiebreaker over Middle Tennessee, the Mean Green would claim its second consecutive Sun Belt title Friday night if Western Kentucky wins or ties at MTSU.
The Mean Green was outshot by WKU 11-4. North Texas committed seven fouls to Western Kentucky’s one.
WKU’s goals came in the 22nd minute from Ali Stahlkie and the 42nd minute from Lauren Moats.
“We just had no legs today. Playing a game on Thursday, having to travel and running up against a well-rested Western Kentucky team today finally took its toll on the girls,” UNT coach John Hedlund said. “We’re still in first by a point and can finish no worse than a second seed in the tournament.
“We’ll just have to see how everything plays out, but Western Kentucky is a very balanced team that can beat anyone in our conference.”
