DALLAS — North Texas took on SMU (3-0) at Moody Coliseum on Thursday night, and in an arena where it has not won since 1989, the Mean Green again came up short, losing 67-63.
BreAnna Dawkins led UNT (0-2) with 15 points, while Alexis Hyder was also in double figures with 13.
Hannah Christian scored nine points, while Sara Stanley had a team-high nine rebounds. Alisha Filmore led the Mustangs with 16 points, while Akil Simpson had eight rebounds.
The difference proved to be at the free-throw line as SMU was 23 of 36, while the Mean Green was 13 of 14. UNT was able to stay in the game by hitting 6 of 13 3-point shots to the Mustangs’ 0 for 7.
The Mean Green led 29-28 at halftime, but SMU shot 54 percent in the second half to grab the victory.
UNT next plays at Alabama at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
