North Texas went 0-2 in the first day of action at the Lovelace Invitational on Friday afternoon, losing to Oklahoma State 8-0 in the opener and 4-3 to Nebraska-Omaha in the nightcap.

The host Mean Green fell to 3-4 overall. Oklahoma State (3-3) went 1-1 for the day, losing to Iowa 3-1 in eight innings, while Nebraska-Omaha (7-0) also defeated Dayton 9-2.

The Cowgirls allowed only four Mean Green hits in their victory, while North Texas came back twice against the Mavericks but came up short in the seventh inning. In both games, the Mean Green put runners on base but missed the timely hits. North Texas left 15 runners stranded in the combined two games.

Amber Lutmer gave the Mavericks a 2-0 lead in the third inning with her fifth home run of the season. North Texas tied the game in the fourth inning with a two-out rally. Taylor Schoblocher reached base on an error and advanced to second on a Jordan Terry single. Jackie Miller plated the first run with a double down the left field side, and Dani Hoff tied the game with an RBI single.

The Mavericks regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly after loading the bases. Mara Eeman tacked on an additional run with an RBI single that run proved to be the game winner.

Hoff began the seventh-inning rally with a one-out double and scored on Karly Williams’ single up the middle, cutting the lead to 4-3. Williams, however, was left stranded on a groundout to end the game.

Lauren Poole took the loss for the Mean Green in her first start of the season. She pitched six innings and gave up four runs off six hits.

OSU’s Simone Freeman pitched a complete-game four-hitter, striking out nine, to beat UNT earlier in the day.

The Cowgirls scored their runs off eight hits while aided by three Mean Green errors.

Schoblocher led the Mean Green with two hits against the Cowgirls. Ashley Kirk took the loss for the Mean Green against OSU, allowing four runs off four hits in 2 2/3 innings of work.

North Texas returns to action today against Iowa at 4:30 p.m. followed by a game against Dayton.
