Swimming: WKU takes early lead at SBC meet

The Sun Belt Conference Swimming & Diving Championship kicked off Wednesday night with Western Kentucky holding the early lead and North Texas not far behind at the Rockwall Aquatic Center.

The Lady Toppers touched the wall first in the opening event, the 200-medley relay, with a season-best time of 1:39.95. The victory helped Western Kentucky take the first-day lead with 72 points.

Florida International won the 800 free relay and is in second place with 70 points. North Texas is next with 68 after finishing second in both the 200-medley relay and the 800 free relay.

Today’s events begin at 11 a.m. with the 500 free preliminaries, 200 IM, 50 free and 3-meter diving. The finals start at 6:30 p.m.
