North Texas finished play in the CenturyLink Classic on Sunday with a 9-1 five-inning victory against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in San Marcos.
The victory gave the Mean Green (11-10) a 4-1 record in the event, with its only loss coming to Purdue. It was UNT’s third victory of the season against the Islanders in as many games.
Paige Kisling helped the Mean Green set season highs in runs and hits by going 3 for 3, including a triple, and scoring three runs. Jordan Terry also helped with her team-leading fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the third, while Jackie Miller went 2 for 2 with two RBIs.
Brittany Simmons (3-3) won her third game of the season, allowing one run off three hits in five innings of work. She pitched a one-hitter through four innings before giving up two singles and a run in the fifth.
North Texas hit .346 as a team over the weekend, as Jordan Foster knocked in eight runs with two home runs, and Danielle Hoff hit .467 with seven hits.
North Texas opens conference play this weekend, when it plays host to Florida International in a three-game series. The two teams will play a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lovelace Stadium. They play again at noon Sunday.
