Taylor Schoblocher hit two home runs, and Ashley Kirk tossed a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead North Texas to a 10-2 victory over Troy on Sunday at Lovelace Stadium.
The victory gave the Mean Green the Sun Belt Conference series after the two teams split a doubleheader on Saturday. UNT improved to 14-12 and 3-2 in league play, while Troy fell to 12-18 and 2-3.
After hitting a pinch-hit, three-run homer in Saturday’s win, Schoblocher continued her hot power stroke with two home runs Sunday.
Schoblocher’s two-run homer in the third inning put the Mean Green in front to stay at 3-2, before her solo shot in the fifth ended the game on a run rule.
Schoblocher is now tied with Jordan Terry for the team lead in home runs with four.
Kirk (6-4), meanwhile, got the victory with her performance. Her only mistake was giving up a two-run homer to Hannah Renn in the third inning.
UNT opened the scoring in the first as Brooke Foster led off with a walk and later scored on a groundout by Dani Hoff. Foster later added a sacrifice fly in the third, following Schoblocher’s homer, to increase the Mean Green’s lead to 4-2.
UNT broke the game open in the fourth by scoring four runs to take a 9-2 lead. After Bryana Wade and Karly Williams both drove in single runs, Paige Kisling got the big hit in the inning with a three-run triple. It was Kisling’s third triple of the season and needs only one more to tie the UNT season record.
North Texas returns to action at 6 p.m. Wednesday against Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla.
