The North Texas softball team will face Oklahoma State today in a midweek tuneup for a key Sun Belt Conference series at Western Kentucky.
UNT came back from a six-run deficit in the second game of a series against Troy last weekend to win 8-6 and went on to take the series by winning the finale 10-2.
The wins moved UNT (14-12) to 3-2 in Sun Belt play and set up a key series this weekend with the Hilltoppers.
WKU (15-9) sits atop the league standings at 5-1 and is one of three teams with just one loss in Sun Belt play. Florida International (4-1) and South Alabama (2-1) also have lost only one conference game.
UNT has a chance to keep pace with those teams and has momentum on its side after a big week from Brooke Foster and Taylor Schoblocher.
Foster went 5-for-8 against Troy with two doubles and a home run and ranks 10th in the Sun Belt with a .346 batting average.
Schoblocher hit three home runs against Troy, accounting for all of her hits in five at-bats. The freshman hit a pinch-hit, three-run homer that capped a seven-run sixth inning in the second game of UNT’s series against Troy. She went on to hit two home runs in the final game of the series, including a walk-off solo shot in the fifth that gave UNT a 10-2 win.
UNT will look to build on that momentum at 6 tonight in Stillwater, Okla., against the Cowgirls, who hammered the Mean Green 8-0 last month.
UNT to take on Columbia
UNT will play host to Columbia in a showdown between two nationally ranked teams at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
UNT (10-4) jumped back into the ITA national rankings at No. 73 after running its winning streak to three matches over the weekend with a 5-2 win over Louisiana-Monroe and a 4-0 win over Louisiana-Lafayette.
Columbia is ranked 61st.
