Track and field: Mean Green wins four events at Baylor Quad

WACO — North Texas completed its second meet of the season Friday, bringing home 29 top-five finishes from the Baylor Quad Invitational at the Hart-Patterson Track & Field Complex.

The UNT women captured three first-place finishes. Jo Adams took home first in the 800-meter dash, while Haley Thompson jumped 5 feet, 5 inches to win the high jump.

Sarah Vann leapt to a first-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 11-5 3/4. In her first appearance of 2013, Sarah Korn captured second with the same mark.

John Garrish blasted past the school hammer throw record by more than 20 feet. Garrish made a throw of 191-5 on his way to finishing second. Aaron Sirles threw a personal-best 172-11, capturing third, and Cody January threw 169-9, finishing fourth.

In his first outdoor meet of the season, freshman Derek Richard cleared 14-7 1/4 in the pole vault for his first collegiate win.

The men’s distance runners posted several top-five finishes. Matt Russ placed second in the 800 with a time of 1:53.57. Austin Yaeger (1:54.10) followed in third, Troy Taylor (1:54.80) was in fourth and Bryce McAndrew (1:55.26) fifth.

Silvester Harrison took second in the 1,500 with a time of 4:01.35.
