North Texas snapped Troy’s 12-match winning streak Friday with a 4-1 victory.
The Mean Green grabbed an early advantage, winning doubles matches at the No. 2 and 3 positions. Dané Joubert and Ilona Serchenko took down Candela Munoz Giron and Anja Cosovic 8-1 in the No. 3 slot. Kseniya Bardabush and Franziska Sprinkmeyer rallied past Hannah Toro and Rosaura Ramirez-Vega 8-6 in the No. 2 spot.
Serchenko added to UNT’s lead, defeating Munoz Giron 6-1, 6-4 in No. 5 singles. Bardabush picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Karoline Grymel in No. 1 singles. Barbora Vykydalova clinched the win by defeating Lyubov Dorofeeva 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 2 position.
The No. 74 Mean Green returns to action at 3 p.m. Sunday against Middle Tennessee. It will be senior day for Serchenko, Valetina Starkova and Vykydalova.
“Our goal is to come out and finish off our last regular-season match on Sunday on a positive note,” UNT coach Sujay Lama said.
