North Texas defeated Middle Tennessee 4-0 on Sunday to go undefeated in Sun Belt Conference play this season.
“These seniors have done so much for the program,” UNT coach Sujay Lama said. “It was great to see them finish their last home match on a winning note."
The Mean Green took the doubles point for the eighth time in the last nine matches. Dané Joubert and Ilona Serchenko beat Alexa Torres and Taylor Mathews 8-0 in the No. 3 position. Senior duo Valentina Starkova and Barbora Vykydalova defeated Irina Constantinide and Yuiri Nomoto 8-5 at the No. 1 position.
The victory put Vykydalova in second place on UNT’s career wins list in No. 1 doubles with 44.
Serchenko dropped just two points on her way to defeating Torres 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 5 singles position. Agustina Valenzuela won her fourth straight match in No. 6 singles, defeating Mathews 6-0, 6-2.
Starkova clinched the match for the Mean Green, defeating Flavia Nagayama 7-6, 6-1 in No. 3 singles to keep her record perfect in the SBC.
“We are coming together as a team at the right time, and now the goal is peaking this week at the conference tournament,” Lama said.
No. 74 North Texas (15-5) next travels to Lafayette, La., for the Sun Belt tournament, which is scheduled for Thursday through Sunday.
