Back-to-back homers by Taylor Schoblocher and Bryana Wade led North Texas to a 5-3 win against No. 19 Baylor on Wednesday night at Lovelace Stadium. The Bears came back to earn the split of the doubleheader with a 2-1 win in the nightcap.
The Mean Green (19-20) snapped a five-game losing streak with the first-game win. North Texas defeated a ranked opponent for the first time since defeating Baylor at home during the 2011 season. The Lady Bears (34-11) are 3-1 this season against the Mean Green.
Extra-base hits propelled North Texas to a victory in the opening game, but the Baylor pitchers shut down the Mean Green offense in the nightcap.
Ashley Kirk (9-7) struck out eight batters and walked only one in her complete-game winning performance. After giving up three runs in the first three innings, she retired 12 of the final 14 batters.
Brittany Simmons (6-8) took the loss in the nightcap, despite giving up just one earned run off six hits. The winning run for Baylor was scored off a Mean Green fielding error in the third inning.
North Texas returns to action Saturday, when it faces Middle Tennessee on the road for a three-game Sun Belt Conoference series.
