Top-ranked Oklahoma defeated North Texas 12-1 on Tuesday at Lovelace Stadium.
The Sooners (40-3) jumped out to an early lead and sealed the win on the run rule with four runs in the sixth inning.
Keilani Ricketts picked up her 23rd win of the season. She pitched four innings and gave up one earned run and three hits. She struck out six batters and walked one.
Jordan Terry posted the first hit for the Mean Green and its only run with a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the second. It was her team-leading eighth home run of the season.
Brittany Simmons (8-9) took the loss for the Mean Green. She walked her first two batters, and they both came around to score on base hits. Ricketts singled to center and scored on a groundout for OU’s third run of the inning.
Shelby Pendley hit a three-run homer in the top of the second to extend OU’s lead to 7-0. Terry cut into the lead in the bottom of the inning with her home run.
Callie Parsons knocked in a run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly, and Jessica Shults capped the scoring for OU in the sixth with a two-run homer.
OU outhit the Mean Green 9-4. North Texas was hurt by two errors.
North Texas returns to action at 6 p.m. today when it visits Texas-Arlington.
