Softball: UNT’s ‘Play for Kay’ game today

Comments () A Text Size

The North Texas softball team will conduct its sixth annual “Play for Kay” game today, when the Mean Green plays host to Texas-Arlington at 4 p.m. at Lovelace Stadium.

UNT will donate all proceeds raised from T-shirt sales and cash donations to Kay Johnson, a longtime employee of the athletic department. Johnson, for whom the event is named, has been in remission from acute lymphoblastic leukemia for seven years but has been in and out of the hospital for the last seven months because of additional medical problems.

UNT also will conduct a silent auction, and those proceeds will benefit DFW’s Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Over the last five years, the UNT softball team has raised and donated more than $6,000 to LLS through the Play for Kay games.
