Softball: Mean Green nips Lady Jacks

NACOGDOCHES — Dani Hoff knocked in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, giving North Texas a 2-1 win over Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday.

The Mean Green (27-22) capped its regular season with a win and looks to the Sun Belt Conference tournament next week. The 27 wins ties for the third-most in school history.

UNT’s Ashley Kirk (14-8) gave up one run and three hits. She struck out nine and walked five. The junior increased her strikeout total to 161, good for second on UNT’s single-season list. She is third on UNT’s single-season wins list.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Elizabeth Arana hit an RBI single for the Lady Jacks (14-31).

In the seventh, Jackie Miller hit a two-out single to keep the Mean Green in the game. After Karly Williams drew a walk, Bryana Wade tied the game with a single.

In the eighth, Lesley Hirsch scored the winning run from third after reaching base with a single. She advanced to third on a Brooke Foster hit.

Hirsch and Foster had multi-hit games to lead UNT. Foster has 63 hits, which moves her into a tie for fourth on UNT’s single-season list
