North Texas announced Thursday that its football progrram will be featured on an television show set to debut next week.

Beyond the Green will be a documentary-style series that examines the people and storylines behind the UNT program throughout the upcoming season. UNT partnered with Fox Sports Southwest, CSN Houston, Time Warner Sports and Fox College Sports on the project.

The first episode will air at 6 p.m. Thursday on Time Warner Sports and will be shown at the same time on each subsequent Thursday on the network. Fox Sports Southwest will air the first episode at 5 p.m. next Friday.

Ashton Campbell, a UNT graduate, is the executive producer of the series, which will document the Mean Green’s season. Campbell has produced shows for CBS College Football Confidential, the Big Ten Network and Yahoo Sports.

Film crews have shot interviews with UNT players and those around the program over the last several days.

Warner out for year again

Sophomore safety Freddie Warner broke his arm at the end of practice Tuesday night and is out for the season, coach Dan McCarney confirmed late Wednesday.

The injury required surgery. McCarney indicated that the procedure went well.

Warner has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. The former Dallas Pinkston standout tore the anterior cruiciate ligament in his knee during spring practice following the 2011 season.

UNT hoped Warner could return by the middle of the 2012 season, but he tore his ACL in the same knee during the rehabilitation process.

Warner broke his foot in the seventh game of the 2011 season after starting three consecutive games.

Warner moved from cornerback to safety and showed the potential to help UNT after making the switch. McCarney praised Warner and tight end Marcus Smith for their performance while coming back from two ACL tears in the same knee at his weekly press conference just hours before the practice during which Warner broke his arm.

“To come back and not only play, but play good football and contribute to our team the way they will this season is pretty amazing stuff,” McCarney said. “I wanted to mention them because they are two outstanding young men. We didn’t know what we would get and how they would respond. It goes right back to their determination and work ethic.”

While Warner showed that he could help UNT this season, safety is one of the deepest positions on the team.

UNT returns both of its starters from last season in Marcus Trice and Lairamie Lee and added Louisville transfer Zed Evans in the offseason. Trice and Lee are listed as UNT’s starters heading into the season.

Evans is listed as Lee’s backup, while Warner was listed second on the depth chart behind Trice.
