North Texas exacted some revenge against Stephen F. Austin on Wednesday, reversing the sweep it received at the hands of the Ladyjacks a year ago by cutting them down 25-19, 25-22, 25-22.
“I thought we were consistent on offense,” UNT coach Andrew Palileo said. “And with some timely defense, we were able to get out ahead and sustain the lead with our side-out game.”
Offensively, North Texas got a boost from Florida Atlantic transfer Chandler Hatton, who posted a career-high nine kills.
“Chandler’s performance was big-time,” UNT libero Shelby Tamura said. “She brings a new outlook on the right side to our offense.”
Sophomore Carnae Dillard led UNT with 15 kills and tacked on nine digs. Freshman Amy Henard had a double-double with 41 assists — her season high in a three-set match — and 11 digs.
North Texas will welcome East Carolina to Denton at 7 p.m. Friday to open up its first season of Conference USA play.
