The North Texas men’s team finished second while the women took third at the Conference USA meet Saturday at UNT.

“Entering a new conference, we wanted to make a statement,” UNT coach Stefanie Slekis said. “Having six men finish in the top 21 was a huge accomplishment.”

The Tulsa men’s team became the first to capture four consecutive C-USA championships, while the women’s race resulted in a first-place tie for the first time as Tulsa and Texas-San Antonio each totaled 67 points.

The Tulsa men finished with 26 points, followed by UNT with 63. UTEP’s Anthony Rotich clocked the top time for the second straight year at 24:31.57.

Troy Taylor led the way for the Mean Green, finishing ninth with a time of 25:30.35. Taylor was named second-team all-conference with teammates Matt Russ, Alejandro Valencia and Silvester Harrison. James Coleman and Bryce McAndrew earned third-team honors.

On the women’s side, UNT senior Jo Adams finished third in 17.22.73, making the C-USA first team with teammate Charlotte Wilson, who placed sixth in 17:34.14. UAB’s Elinor Kirk won the title at 17:09.84.

Up next for the Mean Green is the NCAA regional meet Nov. 15 in Waco.
