North Texas faced No. 23 Tulsa in its first Conference USA match of the season, and the Golden Hurricane won 4-2 on Friday.

“We fought hard today and gave ourselves a chance to pull an upset,” UNT coach Sujay Lama said. “Our inexperience was the difference toward the end.”

In singles play, North Texas freshman Anastasiya Shestakova defeated Tulsa’s Isaura Enrique 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. Agustina Valenzuela continued her winning streak for the Mean Green with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Maria Sant’Anna.

In doubles play, the Mean Green was defeated 8-3 by Tulsa’s Nos. 1 and 3 teams.

“We have a quick recovery to play a good Kansas State team,” Lama said.

The Mean Green will face No. 52 Kansas State at noon today. The series is tied 3-all, with the Mean Green winning in 2012.
