Track and field: UNT’s Wilson takes third at Texas Relays

AUSTIN — UTEP junior Anthony Rotich won the steeplechase at the Texas Relays on Thursday, finishing in 8 minutes, 38.68 seconds.

BYU senior Chase Dalton won the decathlon with 7,642 points. Arkansas’ Kevin Lazas was second at 7,592, and defending NCAA champion Johannes Hock of Texas followed at 7,753.

North Texas senior Charlotte Wilson finished third in the women’s steeplechase in 10:24.53. Sarah Pease, a member of a club team, won in 10:12.55.

Kansas junior Lindsay Vollmer won the heptathlon with 5,625 points, 15 ahead of Penn State’s Brittney Howell. Vollmer had a 17-point lead entering the final event, the 800 meters, and the pair finished 0.15 seconds apart, with Vollmer holding onto her overall lead.

Florida’s Brittney Harrell was third with 5,620 points.

Baylor won the women’s 3,200 relay in 8:46.85, and Arkansas took the men’s race in 7:24.12.
