GULF SHORES, Ala. — North Texas saved its best for the final day of the Conference USA tournament, as the Mean Green shot a season-low round of 294 Wednesday to climb to eighth place.
UNT had the eighth-best round of the day at 6 over par, led by freshman Eji Kwon’s career-best 2-under 70. Kwon, with three birdies and one bogey on the day, finished in a tie for 12th place — the best finish in a conference tournament by a UNT freshman since the 2002-03 season.
No. 34 Tulane captured its second consecutive C-USA title by 10 strokes over Texas-San Antonio. Tulane was the only team in the field of 13 to finish under par.
UNT seniors Brooke Bailey, Chaslyn Chrismer and Taylor Kilponen played in their final tournament. Chrismer, a four-year letter winner, shot 73 and finished in a tie for 25th. Chrismer holds the second-lowest score in school history after she shot a 67 as a freshman in 2011.
Kilponen shot 76, and Bailey posted her second-lowest score of the year with a 5-over 77. Laura DeLeonardis had her best round of the week with a 75.
