The TWU Pioneers opened their 2012 season against 15th-ranked Dallas Baptist on Saturday night and flipped the switch to their new lights in front of 471 fans at TWU Soccer Field. However, DBU spoiled the party with a 3-1 victory.

Lea Sedwick scored the game’s first goal in the 14th minute before Lindsey Eccles scored the next two to put the Patriots up 3-0. TWU junior Emily Davila found the net in the 84th minute for the Pioneers’ only goal.

“It was a great atmosphere and girls loved playing under the lights,” TWU head coach Fleur Benatar said.“I am not happy with the loss, but I am happy with the effort. We have so many new faces on the team and it took us a while to get going, but we played well in the second half.DBU is probably the best team in our region, and we gave up some easy goals.”

The Pioneers play host to Ouachita Baptist at 2 p.m. today.
