ADA, Okla. — A late goal by East Central forced TWU to settle for a double-overtime tie.
ECU scored in the eighth minute, but TWU senior Brittany Martin tied it with a breakaway goal in the 23rd minute.
Freshman Brittany Rogers put the Pioneers on top with her first career goal in the 64th minute, as freshman Cecily Martinez picked up the assist for her first collegiate point. The Lady Tigers added the equalizer in the 88th minute to force overtime.
The score stayed tied at 2 through the two 10-minute overtime periods.
“It’s disappointing, but we will take the tie,” TWU coach Fleur Benatar said. “We gave up two silly goals again, but I am happy with the effort. It was very windy and the girls played hard.”
TWU outshot ECU 25-15, including 15-4 in shots on goal.
The Pioneers (0-2-1) now head to Alva, Okla., to face Northwestern Oklahoma State at 1 p.m. Sunday.
