GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Viktorija Jablonska recorded her first career triple-double to lead the Pioneers to two wins at the Holiday Inn Crossroads Classic. TWU defeated Fort Hays State 25-22, 18-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-13 and then swept Western State (Colo.) 25-15, 25-21, 25-15 to improve to 6-0.
Jablonska led the match with 22 kills and added 14 digs and 13 assists as the Pioneers handed Fort Hays its first loss of the season. TWU posted a .231 hitting percentage in the first set but struggled in the second with 14 hitting errors.
In the final set, TWU trailed just once early and posted a .333 hitting percentage.
Against Western State College, the Pioneers had a .317 hitting percentage.
Jablonska totaled 35 kills, 22 assists and 19 digs in the two matches. Chloe’ Tate added 18 kills while Kayla Rivero posted 63 assists. Courtnee Davis was the leader on defense with 28 digs, and sophomore Morgan Wilson added 23 digs.
“Everyone played well against a very good Fort Hays team and it’s a big win. Viktorija had a monster game and Courtnee had a double-double,” TWU coach Shelly Barberee said.
The Pioneers continue tournament play today with matches against No. 24 Grand Canyon at 10 a.m. and host Colorado Mesa at 12:30 p.m.
