Soccer: Pioneers rally, but fall in overtime

COMMERCE — TWU rallied from a two-goal deficit to force overtime, but a goal in the 93rd minute by Texas A&M-Commerce handed the Pioneers a 3-2 loss Wednesday night.

TWU falls to 5-4-2 on the season and 4-2-1 in the Lone Star Conference. The Pioneers are currently in second place in the LSC standings after the first half of the conference schedule.

Trailing 2-0, the Pioneers cut the deficit in half on a long throw-in by freshman Haleigh Wanzer in the 24th minute. Sophomore Taylor Maxson took the throw and found the net on a header for her third goal of the season.

In the second half, TWU senior Brittany Martin found the net in the 55th minute to tie the game at 2-2.

In overtime the Lady Lions found the net on their first opportunity off a corner kick. Cadie Annett scored on a rebound shot off a scramble three minutes into the extra period.

The Pioneers return to action at 4 p.m. Friday on the road against Angelo State.
