WICHITA FALLS — TWU suffered a heartbreaking loss on two late goals.

The Pioneers (6-8-2, 5-6-1 Lone Star) got on the scoreboard first as Jillian Fuerman headed in a corner kick from Lauren Smith in the 33rd minute. It was Fuerman’s first goal of the season.

TWU held the Mustangs scoreless for 80 minutes before Ashley Cottrell tied the game at the 80:36 mark. She put the Mustangs on top two minutes later on a header off a corner kick.

Midwestern State outshot the Pioneers 23-9 and had a 10-5 advantage in corner kicks.

“Our defense was outstanding,” TWU head coach Fleur Benatar said.

The Pioneers will return to action when they visit Abilene Christian at 1 p.m. Sunday.
