Freshman Erin Bolinger scored the only goal of the game Saturday night to lead TWU to a 1-0 win over visiting Texas A&M-Commerce in the Pioneers’ regular-season finale.
TWU (7-9-2, 6-7-1 Lone Star) recognized its eight seniors — Katy Black, Jillian Fuerman, Leah Kuhl, Brittany Martin, Beatrice Soto, Ashley Van Bakel, Grace Williams and Brittany Wispell — in a pregame ceremony.
TWU’s six conference wins ties the school record set in 2009.
Bolinger scored her first collegiate goal in the 43rd minute, firing a point-blank shot into the net after finding a rebound just inside the box.
TWU outshot the Lions 12-5, including 6-2 in shots on goal. Lindsey Sisco made two saves in the net for her fourth shutout of the season. Sisco’s saves came in the 53rd and 56th minutes.
“It was a good team effort,” TWU coach Fleur Benatar said. “Erin scored a great goal to give us the lead, and our defense stayed strong. Lindsey made couple of good saves in the net and Brittany [Wispell] played really well on defense.”
TWU will face Angelo State at noon Thursday in the first round of the Lone Star Conference tournament in Canyon.
