Frisco Liberty’s Andrea Mapua and Killeen Ellison’s Kenesha Saygo have signed national letters of intent to play basketball at TWU.

“Both these young ladies are exceptional students and basketball players,” TWU coach Beth Jillson said. “Their relentless work ethic and passion for the game will allow them to excel at TWU.”

Mapua, a 5-foot-9-inch guard, was named to the All-District 4-4A first team in 2011 and the 4-4A second team in 2012. She was a four-time academic all-district selection and helped her team to bi-district championship in 2011. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society.

“Andrea’s 3-point shooting ability will stretch the defense and allow us to get the ball inside,” Jillson said. “She is also a very fundamentally sound player who will make her teammates better.”

Saygo, a 5-foot-8-inch guard, was named second-team all-district in 2012 after averaging 8.3 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 51.0 percent from the floor. Saygo is in the top 20 percent of her class.

“As a point guard, Saygo has great court vision and a high basketball IQ,” Jillson said. “Her athleticism and ball handling skills will be a great fit with our up-tempo style of play. She has the ability to knock down the 3 and attack the rim. She will also make an immediate impact with her pressure defense.”
