CANYON — Rebekah Cluley led TWU with 15 points Thursday, but Devin Griffin paced West Texas A&M with 15 points of her own as the Lady Buffs captured a 65-51 win.
The Lady Buffs (6-8, 2-3 Lone Star) shot 52.0 percent, while TWU finished at 37.0 percent from the floor. The Pioneers (3-8, 1-4) hit 12 of 14 free throws.
TWU guards Toree Mason and Barbara-Scott Kolb added 11 points and nine points, respectively. Tabbatha Thurmond returned after missing three games to injury and scored six points.
The Pioneers held West Texas A&M without a field goal in the first nine minutes. The Lady Buffs, however, got to the free throw line and scored seven straight points to take an 8-6 lead. The Lady Buffs led by 10 points, but the Pioneers cut the deficit to 30-27 at halftime.
The Lady Buffs used a 15-3 run to open the second half and put the game away.
The Pioneers will visit Eastern New Mexico at 3 p.m. Saturday.
