Junior Katie Hines pitched four shutout innings in relief as No. 14 TWU rallied to win its sixth straight, 3-2 over St. Mary’s on Thursday night at Pioneer Field.
Hines allowed four hits while striking out five for her sixth win of the season. She also went 1 for 3 at the plate, while junior Amanda Ruiz was 1 for 2 with a run and a RBI. Junior Haley Colwell led TWU with two hits.
St. Mary’s took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the third, when the Pioneers (16-5) sent eight batters to score three runs and take the lead.
Colwell led off the third with a single to center and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Bailey Vrazel. Ruiz then doubled to left center to drive in Colwell to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Ruiz moved to third on Hines’ infield single and scored on a wild pitch to tie game. Sophomore Christina Eberhard, who pinch ran for Hines, stole second, moved to third on the run-tying wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch to put the Pioneers on top for good.
The Pioneers return to action at 2:30 p.m. Monday, when they play host to a doubleheader against Northeastern State.
