The past week has been something special for TWU’s Katie Hines.
The junior outfielder/pitcher from Beaumont led the No. 9 Pioneers to a three-game sweep of Cameron on Friday and Saturday, going 7-for-14 at the plate with five home runs, six runs and 13 RBIs.
On Tuesday, Hines was named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week, and Wednesday she was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week. She became the first softball player in TWU history to receive the national honor.
Hines knocked in the winning run in all three matchups against Cameron. She established a new TWU single-season home run record with 16.
For the season, Hines has a .415 batting average and is leading the conference in home runs, RBIs (51) and slugging percentage (.924). In the circle, she’s 9-2 with a 2.26 ERA and 43 strikeouts.
