NORMAN, Okla. — Senior Kristin Edwards and junior Courtney Cochefski represented TWU at the NCAA regional meet Saturday with near-perfect performances at the Lloyd Noble Center.
Competing in her first regional, Edwards went in the third rotation on floor exercise. She posted a 9.850 and tied for ninth overall.
Edwards’ score was the highest ever in the event for a TWU gymnast at regionals. Rashonda Cannie posted a 9.750 on floor in 2010 while competing as an all-arounder.
Cochefski competed in her second straight regional and in the final bars rotation, she scored a 9.800 and tied for 15th.
Cochefski tied the second-highest score in the event for a TWU gymnast at regionals.
“It was a great night for both Kristin and Courtney,” TWU coach Lisa Bowerman said. “Kristin had a good routine and perfectly clean.
“Courtney also had a good score. She had higher goals and was disappointed that she did not score higher than last year.”
The two gymnasts now will join the rest of the Pioneers as they prepare for next weekend’s USA Gymnastics national meet at Centenary in Shreveport, La.
