SHREVEPORT, La. — TWU gymnasts dominated the USA Gymnastics individual event finals Sunday with a three-way tie for the national title on vault and a co-championship on balance beam.

The Pioneers also earned second- and third-place finishes on floor exercise and a fifth-place finish on bars.

TWU seniors Kristin Edwards, Bethany Larimer and Amy Winczura shared the title on vault with scores of 9.850. Edwards and Wincaura did an identical layout full while Larimer did a layout half to become TWU’s first three-way champions in an event.

Larimer also captured a gold medal on beam with a score of 9.875. She tied Rachel Zabawa of Lindenwood. TWU sophomore Spencer Jones posted a 9.725 to finish ninth, and junior Ciara Maradiaga scored 9.700 to tie for 10th.

Competing in her final event as a Pioneer, Edwards posted a 9.875 on floor and placed second for the second straight season. It’s her third USAG silver medal in the event, having also earned one in 2010. Sophomore Stephanie Repp tied for third with a 9.850.

Jones tied for seventh on floor with a 9.750 and tied for fifth on bars with a 9.775. Jones learned late Friday that she placed fourth in all-around.

“I am so incredibly proud of our performances [Sunday],” TWU coach Lisa Bowerman said. “Competing for the third day in a row is always tough, but we hit every routine that we did. What an incredible accomplishment for our three vaulters to finish in a three-way tie for the championship. They were phenomenal today. I am so proud of Bethany for her beam title. She has been a rock on our beam team all season long, so it was great to see her finish the season in such an awesome way.”
