STEPHENVILLE — TWU split a doubleheader Tuesday at Tarleton State. The Pioneers dropped the first game 6-4 before winning 5-4 in nine innings.
In the first inning of game one, TWU’s Bailey Vrazel scored on a single by Jordan Readicker. The Pioneers went up 2-1 in the fourth when Lizzy Kelly scored on a single by Sarah Wittenburg. The TexAnns went on top with four runs in the fourth.
TWU’s Katie Hines led off the seventh with her 22nd home run, and Kelly hit an RBI double. TWU brought the tying run to the plate before its rally ended.
In the nightcap, TWU led 2-0 in the second after Kelly’s solo home run. The TexAnns tied the game in the fourth.
The Pioneers (37-11, 15-5 Lone Star) scored an unearned run in the fifth, and Kendra Sancet made it 4-2 in the seventh with her eighth homer. Tarleton State scored two runs with two outs in the bottom half to force extra innings.
In the ninth, Sancet scored the winning run with a home run to center. Brandie Lander tossed a complete game and picked up her 17th win.
