DALLAS — TWU fell behind early on its way to a 3-0 loss to Dallas Baptist on Tuesday as the Pioneers concluded their nonconference schedule.
Dallas Baptist scored a pair of goals in the first 30 minutes to take control. Megan McDermand scored in the fifth minute and Ashley Cox made it 2-0 at 28:52 mark. Danielle Presley scored in the 82nd minute.
The Pioneers (3-4-1) played a woman down for 82 minutes after receiving a red card on a foul to prevent a breakaway.
“I am very happy the way we played, and we couldn’t have asked more out of our players with the situation we were put in after the red card,” TWU coach Babak Abouzar said. “The effort and intensity was there. They scored all three goals on set pieces that we didn’t clear.”
TWU was outshot 22-0, including 12-0 in the shots on goal. Goalie Lindsey Sisco made eight saves for the Pioneers.
“The boxscore in my opinion is little deceiving,” Abouzar said. “Yes we were defending for the majority of the game but we did have few opportunities that we did not connect on and get the shots on net.”
The Pioneers will open Lone Star Conference play at West Texas A&M at 7 p.m. Friday.
