Despite a game-high 15 points from senior Rebekah Cluley, TWU fell to Fort Lewis 52-49 in the TexAnn Tip-Off Classic on Saturday in Stephenville.
Junior Ria Pateraki also scored in double digits for the Pioneers (1-2) with 10 points, while junior Toree Mason added six points and cleared a team-high seven rebounds.
TWU used an 11-0 run to take an early 17-9 lead and led 22-13 before Fort Lewis scored nine straight points to tie the game with 6:36 left in the first half. The two teams went into halftime tied at 28-28.
In the second half, both teams continued to go back and forth until Fort Lewis went on an 11-1 run to go up 49-41. The Pioneers rallied to cut the lead to 50-49 with 1:38 left, but couldn’t capitalize on three chances to either take the lead or tie the game in the final minute.
The Pioneers return to action when they play host to the annual Marriott Champions Circle Pioneer Premiere this Saturday and Sunday. TWU will face Regis at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, then play Central Oklahoma at 2 p.m. Sunday.
