The semifinals of the Lone Star Conference tournament may not have ended up in TWU’s favor, but on Monday, the Pioneers officially learned their postseason will continue for the first time under head coach Shelly Barberee.
TWU earned an at-large bid to the NCAA South Central Regional tournament, scheduled for Dec. 5-7 at top-seeded West Texas A&M in Canyon.
This marks the third time in program history the Pioneers’ have earned a tournament berth, with the first two times coming back-to-back in 1996 and 1997.
TWU enters as a No. 6 seed in the eight-team tournament and will face No. 3 Angelo State. ASU defeated TWU in five sets in the tournament semifinals and is 2-1 in the season series.
No. 1 West Texas A&M will face No. 8 Dallas Baptist, while No. 2 Colorado School of Mines faces No. 7 Western New Mexico, and No. 4 Regis plays No. 5 Metro State.
The winner of the South Central Regional Tournament will advance to the 2013 Division II Championship on Dec. 12-14 at U.S. Cellular Center Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
