After losing in the second round of the Lone Star Conference tournament, the TWU basketball team was left out of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional tournament on Sunday.
Holding the No. 8 seed in the regional rankings heading into the LSC tourney, the Pioneers (16-12, 10-6 LSC) were usurped by No. 9 Midwestern State (18-11, 9-7), which fell to top-seeded West Texas A&M 86-85 in overtime of the semifinals after defeating Angelo State 70-66 in overtime.
Midwestern took the seventh seed in the regional tournament with St. Edward’s taking the eighth seed after it got an automatic bid to the tournament with their Heartland Conference tournament championship.
The Pioneers opened the LSC tourney with a 68-61 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville in the quarterfinals but fell to Tarleton State 61-46 in the semifinals after ending their regular season with losses to West Texas A&M and Texas A&M-Commerce.
