Softball: TWU earns at-large bid to South Central Regional

The TWU Pioneers are headed back to the NCAA South Central Regional Softball Tournament after being awarded an at-large bid this morning by the NCAA.

The South Central Regional Tournament will be played in two four-team double-elimination tournaments on May 9-11. The Pioneers, 34-17 overall, will join Metro State, Midwestern State and West Texas A&M in Canyon. TWU hosted the South Central Regional in 2013 before advancing to the super regional and then to the NCAA Division II championships.

TWU, the number-four seed in the South Central Region, will face the No. 5 Metro State while the No. 1 West Texas A&M will take on No. 8 Midwestern State.

No. 2 Angelo State will host the other South Central Regional in San Angelo and will welcome No. 3 St. Mary’s, No. 6 Cameron and No. 7 St. Edward’s. 

The winners of the two regionals will advance to the super regionals on May 16-17.The 2013 NCAA Division II Softball Championship finals will be held May 22-26 at James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va.
