Volleyball roundup: Lady Broncos lose three matches

FRISCO — Denton never could get anything going on the final day of the Frisco tournament, dropping three matches to fall to 13-11 on the season.

The Lady Broncos started the day with a 25-10, 25-17 loss to Carrollton Creekview before falling to Amarillo Canyon Randall 25-11, 25-16. Their day ended with a three-set loss to Southlake Carroll by scores of 25-16, 22-25, 25-13.

Against Creekview, Jade Akins had three kills to lead Denton, while Kendall Wagner and Gennifer Holberg each had three kills each against Canyon Randall. Kendall Wagner and Jade Akins recorded 12 kills each against Carroll, while Morgan Reese added 18 assists and three aces and Alex Dane had 16 digs.

“We started rough, and we just couldn’t get over the bad start,” Denton head coach Daniella Silva said. “We definitely have some things to work on now and we’ll be ready before district [play begins] Friday.”


Argyle tournament

ARGYLE — After Friday night’s success, the Argyle Lady Eagles were back at it again Saturday, winning all three of their matches to capture their own tournament title.

Argyle dropped only one set Saturday as they defeated Prosper 25-10, 25-18, 25-20, Springtown 28-26, 25-23, 25-18 and Burleson 23-25, 25-12, 26-24, 25-23.

Brooke Robertson, who led the Lady Eagles (16-7) with 60 kills, 25 digs and eight aces during the two-day event, was given the All Tournament Award. Tournament MVP honors went to senior setter Blair O’Brien, who recorded 179 assists and 69 digs.

Also for the Lady Eagles, Eighmy Dobbins recorded 54 kills, 19 digs and 15 aces, while Katy Keenan finished the tournament with 55 kills and seven blocks.

Meanwhile, Lake Dallas was swept in all of its matches Saturday, falling to Springtown 25-23, 25-9, 25-19, Prosper 25-15, 25-11, 25-18 and Groesbeck 25-16, 25-21, 22-25, 25-20.

Chrisa Head led the Lady Falcons with 41 digs, 14 kills, and 5 1/2 blocks, while Keegan Gosset added 25 digs and 15 kills. Macey Bauman added 37 assists and 17 digs while Amanda Edwards recorded 42 digs.
